Hazel Herrera Gazzetto
In 2012 after living outside of Canada for many years, Hazel makes a big decision and decides to move her family back to Canada. Moving back to Canada would be challenging. We all know that moving between countries can profoundly affect our lungs, skin and the bacteria that live in our digestive systems with important implications for our health. The human gut is home to hundreds of different species of bacteria known collectively as the “gut microbiome.” As well as breaking down food, this community of microorganisms helps our bodies fight and prevent disease. There is even evidence that the gut microbiome can influence our mental health. In just one year, Hazel had witnessed a dramatic change in her husband and children's health. The family was now dealing with severe asthma, eczema and acne conditions.
In 2013 Hazel decided that it was time to introduce salt therapy to Ottawa. Opening a salt room was the best idea for the entire family. It took a few years of travelling back and forth from Italy to receive training, certifications and to order and purchase an industrial halogenerator. Westgate Mall, located near The Civic and Royal Hospitals in Ottawa, was the perfect place to build SALT WAVE. Salt Therapy is used as a complementary, not alternative therapy in hospitals in Europe; it made sense to create it near two of the busiest hospitals in Ottawa. The construction of the first salt room in Ottawa started in 2015. In 2019 Hazel decided to join the most prominent salt therapy association in the world. The Salt Therapy Association, located in Boca Raton, Florida, the most successful and fastest-growing salt therapy association in America.
Hazel has a degree in both Business Management and Digital Marketing. She holds three halotherapy certifications and is currently studying for a fourth certification. She provides a natural healing environment and utilizes a halogenerator from Eastern Europe. She uses controlling sensors inside the salt room and carefully controls the halogenerator and accurately measures the amount of dry salt aerosol concentration that is in the air inside the treatment room. This ensures your safety and provides you with optimal therapeutic levels of salt concentration. SALT WAVE is the only salt therapy or Halotherapy breathing center in Canada that built their salt room with the close guidance of hospital Policlinico Di Bari.
Why did SALT WAVE choose to work closely with Policlinico Di Bari?
BECAUSE NOT ALL SALT ROOMS ARE CREATED EQUAL!
Creating consistent standards and practices is critical. There have been inconsistencies in the marketplace as to what type of salt to use in halogenerators. While various salts are used as décor, salt used in a halogenerator is very different and affects people differently. Pure grade sodium chloride (also known as medical-grade or pharmaceutical salt) is the only salt that should be used inside the room and crashed into the air. What makes dry salt therapy effective is the property of sodium chloride (NaCl).
The purer the salt, the more percentage of sodium chloride, the more effective the salt will be in providing the characteristics of being super absorbent, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial. Pure sodium chloride is naturally mined salt that eliminates all the trace elements, minerals, dirt and debris so, you are left with 99.99% pure sodium chloride. While Himalayan, rock and other salts contain a variety of minerals, metals and elements, these salts are not consistent in their characteristics, depending on the region where the salt is cultivated.
Only NaCl dissolves 100% in water and does not stay in the lungs, so anything else besides pure NaCl could negatively impact the lungs because other minerals and dirt won’t dissolve in water and will remain in the respiratory system. While these salts are great for cooking and digesting, inhalation is a very different system. Minerals and vitamins are for the digestive system, not for the lungs. And these other minerals and elements are not what impact the positive effects of halotherapy. Some of the elements could be harmful, especially when the microscopic micron-sized particles get deep into the respiratory system.
All the clinical, medical and scientific studies that have been published are based on utilizing only pure sodium chloride. The same salt that hospitals use in saline solutions that enter the body due to its purity is the same salt to be used for dry salt therapy. Some of the other salts may contain dirt, clay and debris in their crystals, and when the precise mechanisms of the halogenerators crush and grind the salt, any foreign particles could damage the system. If you reside in Ottawa, ON, Canada, and wish to experience a natural salt therapy near me, you should consider salt therapy at SALT WAVE as one of your best options.
